This story could be a great movie. It was so easy for me to picture the moments as if I was watching it happening in front of me. Lexie is a really good writer and I’m now curious to read more of her work.
I have so many thoughts about this book, but there are some that I will not be able to share with you because they could be considered as spoilers. I guess I can do that another time…

Ailsa is a very elaborate and interesting character. She is going through this whole situation of having inherited half a house which has all the indications of being hunted and her father is the other person titled to it, but he has been missing for a long time.
Ailsa is the voice of the whole story and I loved all the descriptions of the house and its surroundings. That is something that I find very important when I’m reading a book. I always want details so I can successfully visualize it. There are some great parts of this book that are open to your interpretation which is also something I find fantastic. These are scary moments that are very mysterious and you are put in the same page as the character, not having any idea of what It’s happening.

Before each chapter there is a description of an alternative life that her missing father could be living. It gives the reader a moment to understand Ailsa pain and what it's on her mind about this matter. It made me care about her, and opened the doors to other imaginary stories that could be taking place at the same time.  Of course, all of it was taking place in the character’s mind, but that’s what you do when you don’t know about something, you imagine it.

This book reminded me so much of the Hunting of Hill House. I read this other book not a long time ago, and maybe that’s why the similarities are familiar to me, but they are definitely very different books. To be honest, I’ve been looking for a book that was the same style of the Hunting of Hill house and I’m glad I found it! This was strange and mysterious and I need some good thrillers like this.

I wanted more scary and creepy moments, though. There are a few, but I was expecting more of those and since this story is set in the Highlands, I was expecting to read more details about its landscapes.

This is a well-crafted story. I loved how it turned out in the end and the writing style. For those who like thrillers this is a really good one.
The cover is also beautiful and it complements well the story. I will give this book 4 stars.
