I have mixed feelings about this book, some parts I really enjoyed and others unfortunately I found quite dull. Initially there was just the right amount of suspense created but gradually as more characters got introduced it lost momentum for me and actually became a little muddled.
I liked the scenarios running through the book about the father, quite an original touch.
Towards the middle of the book, the main character Ailsa was starting to rather annoy me as for someone seemingly being portrayed as a modern intelligent woman she seemed to be a bit too gullible and fanciful in her thoughts and actions. I don't realistically think this could be explained by carbon monoxide poisoning which was thrown into the mix towards the end.
The conclusion was satisfying even though it took a long time to get there, but overall, I just think a bit less suspense and more substance would have improved the story.
