I was really really pleased to have smashed through this from cover to cover in just a few hours! I found myself really gripped initially, and my interest continued further as the story went on..

The scene is set so well, and you definitely get the feeling you are immersed in a Scottish location, yet feel totally out of place just as Ailsa does in some parts. There's a constant feeling of not feeling like she belongs, and that she has begun to unearth things that should have been left in the past.

There are a number of moments whereby I actually had shivers down my spine, because I too felt as if someone were watching me! I think the book does an excellent job at portraying this possibly as a crime led plot, or alternately some haunted poltergeist type influence. Either way, I was left with the creeps, and some quite shocking scenes have left me stuck with strong imagery in mind!

I do feel I began to lose focus, and felt as if I was reading simply to get through it. I think these shocking gruesome scenes left me feeling underwhelmed by the actual plot of the family. However still an enjoyable read, and a writing style that makes me want to pick up more from this author.

Ultimately I wasn't blown away and I was toying with whether to give this a three or four star review, but considering I devoured it in one sitting, that's a good indication that it is worthy of the upper four star review I gave it on Goodreads.
