A beautiful cover for a beautiful story.
I will start by saying I chose this book because I thought the cover was beautiful. I’m not a huge history fan, and historical fiction isn’t my thing, but as this was set in my lifetime I thought it was worth a go. Laure is a wonderful protagonist and the way the author details the change in her as we flick through the years is subtle & poignant. The young au pair enjoying her youth in a world that wants to prevent such a thing is a world away from the organised yet lonely museum curator we meet in the present day. I’ve learnt so much from this book. A perfect example of how good it can be to step out of our genre comfort zone & try something new.
If you’re taking this on holiday with you I’m pretty sure you’ll read it in one sitting.
