I was intrigued by the premise of a museum housing broken promises and I knew from the outset that the lead character, Laure, clearly had a broken promise of her own. To find out what this was I've read a thoroughly descriptive novel, which contained multi-layered characters. There was nothing superficial about this story. It was intense and, at times, bleak, but that only strengthened the images of the times and locations they were living in. This was a political story, a love story (or two) and a meander through recent history in 3 major cities all wrapped up in one book.
The author described the characters so fully thus allowing a full picture of each to be easily achieved in this reader's mind - for that I am grateful.
