The Museum of Broken Promises is certainly one of those books that will stay with you. When people ask for books you read in 2019 that had an impact, this is one of the ones you will name.

A gathering of items may sound like nothing of interest, but the power of these particular items is that each one has a story of broken promises, of broken hearts, of broken people. It is beautifully written, and hits you hard. You want to visit the museum, but you also want to heal all the wounds visible within it.

Cold War novels, and novels that in particular look at the impact of the War in the years after, are few and far between. If this is now the standard of such books, expectations for future authors have been set incredibly high.
