This book is so deceiving! I really thought that this book would be a romantic comedy but it was completely different! This was a welcome change though and I ended up really enjoying this book. It is told over a couple of different timelines, from the 1980’s to the present day. Laure leaves as a young girl to be an au pair in Prague during the communist regime. Then she meets Tomas, a young and rebellious Czech musician and they become embroiled in an affair. When she becomes settled in her life here, she starts to become incredibly aware of the living differences between her privileged employer and Tomas and his friends. The regime is oppressive and brutal, and she tries to persuade Tomas to escape to the West with her. This book was such a thoroughly great read and Elizabeth Buchan is clearly a very talented author. I am really looking forward to her new book coming this year!
