Emotional
This is the story of Laure. It looks between her life in Prague in 1985, and her life in present day Paris where she is curator of a curious museum. As current events force her to face her past, she relives a passionate romance and a time of intense political unrest.
I really enjoyed this book and read it in one day, which is unusual for me, and shows it had me hooked.
The first 60-70 pages were a little slow, but after that the story picked up speed and I couldn’t put it down.
I was completely engrossed in Laure’s life story, and totally believed in Tomas’ strong opposition and defiance of the communist regime. However, I did not completely believe in the relationship between the two characters. That being said, I was drawn into the emotion of the book and was crying by the final pages. I really enjoyed the significance of the museum, and Laure’s own treasured artefacts to this story.
This book opened my eyes to an intense period of European history I did not know much about. I would highly recommend this book to fans of historical fiction.
