This is an absolutely gorgeous book. I was absolutely charmed by the cover and title, so simple but with hidden depth. The story depicts the life of Laure from her youth and experiences in Prague during the late 1980s and her current life as the curator of the Museum of Broken Promises in modern day Paris. The idea of the museum is very clever and something I think many of us can relate to: simple, everyday items which represent a moment or experience of grief or loss. Elizabeth Buchan’s descriptions are so vivid that it makes it easy to visualise the settings and characters throughout her story. Mixing modern day Paris with 1985 Prague works fantastically well as a pairing to set the book. I tend to enjoy books with crossovers in time or narrator so this was right up my street.
