I liked it but it wasn't what I was expecting

The book's title is more of a side-project to the main story. The idea of the Museum of Broken Promises was intriguing and I thought it would be a story of the museum, its donors and their stories.

However, this was instead the story of the curator, Laure, who had lived in Prague during the Communist years when she was working as an au pair for Petr, a member of the Party.

She fell in love with Tomas, a member of an anti-communist rock band, and she became an unsuspecting member of the resistance. The book essentially covers her story in Prague, then briefly in Berlin and then finally in Paris where she was opened her museum.

I feel the story would have been as strong without the Museum of Broken Dreams aspect - but want to hear more about the museum and the stories held within. It is almost like there are two very strong ideas which have been put together unnecessarily.

I really enjoyed the book, and the story has introduced me to some of the political history of Czechoslovakia and the characters were fascinating and well written.
