The Museum of Broken Promises is a beautiful and haunting tale, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Having never read a book set in communist-occupied Prague, I found the concept really intriguing and this book (for the most part) did not disappoint.
The Museum of Broken Promises is rich in culture and rife with political and historical value, not only that, but it is heartbreaking. The way that Elizabeth Buchan handles the deeply ingrained tragedy and grief in this book is beautiful. It made for a raw narrative, which really added to both the story, as well as the character development. My favourite aspect, however, had to be the writing style. Elizabeth Buchan’s prose is, for want of a better description, both lyrical and blunt. I do, however, have a few criticisms. Despite liking the characters, I felt that I wasn't particularly invested in their story. I felt like the setting was more of a highlight than the characters were and that took away from my enjoyment of the book.Despite this, I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it!
