I must admit, I was drawn into this book by that beautiful cover - but as it turns out, the story inside was just as lovely!

The story follows Laure right from her youth in Prague during the late 1980's, all the way through to the modern day where she is the curator of the Museum of Broken Promises in Paris. The idea of the museum is quite simple, but elegant; it features simple everyday items, but all of them have a deeper story, representing moments of grief or loss. I loved this idea, and thought it was very clever! All of the stories were really interesting, and some were quite emotional.

I also really enjoyed the split timelines and settings. Buchan evokes both Prague and Paris beautifully. Overall just a really lovely read.
