The story of this book follows Laure in present day Paris, as a museum curator and in Prague, 1985, under communist rule, when she was working as an au pair. I read this book during a recent trip to Europe and it related to so many things I was seeing. I also really liked the idea of this book, and was intrigued by the premise of the "museum of broken promises". However, the problem with the two timelines is that it sometimes it works... but not always. Basically, I found one more interesting than the other and found it a little repetitive at times. But in general I liked the book, and found Laure an interesting and compelling character. I recommend this book if you are looking for a different kind of historical novel.
