The museum in this book collects objects that belonged to people who've had promises broken, quite an interesting and usual thing. At the start, we follow the day to day activities of the museum curator Laure, which gives us a glimpse at some of the objects and their stories. However, halfway through the book, the focus of the story changes and we follow Laure's past, when she was living in Prague and then Berlin.

Initially, I expected the story to center around the museum and its objects but the book turns out to be a historical romance with a focus on Czech communism in 1986. The author does a great job linking the story from the past to the future, but I confess that there were a few moments I was a bit confused with the different timelines.

Nonetheless, I thought the book was a page-turner as I was curious to know the mystery involving Laure's boss and her relationship with Tomas and how they are connected to the creation of the Museum of Broken Promises.

The story can be a little bit heavy involving politics and how relationships can be affected by it. The book was totally different from what I expected, out of my comfort zone for reading, though I found it really enjoyable.

The cover of this book is gorgeous and I love the details in gold!
