At first, I was a little unsure of the cover. I realised afterwards that it's a painting by Edward Hopper who features in this novel set in the 1950s. You get a real sense of the devastation from the aftermath of World War II. Whilst this is a dramatic story, there are some light touches of humour which I appreciated.
