This isn’t the type of book I usually go for. From the preview I thought it was going to be a story about a young boys experience of WW2. The story is set after the war when he has been adopted by an American couple and sent on vacation to Cape Cod. Life in Cod is pretty slow and lazy which is in stark contrast to life during the war. The aftermath of the war has and its effect on the characters is explained throughout the story. I think there are strong themes of loneliness and personal identity which were cleverly portrayed. My favourite thing about the book was the imagery in the language and the excellent character development. We learn so much about the characters who are so real and beautifully portrayed. Though the story wasn’t great, I enjoyed the art in the narrative.
