My First Impression was very good. I loved the Edward Hopper painting on the cover and the easy style of writing. I thought I'd found a writer to match 2 of my favourites - Anita Shreeve and Anne Tyler- and gladly decided to use 2000 of my points in order to secure a copy of the book.
As soon as the book arrived, I couldn't wait to start reading it but alas after 2 days and 158 pages I have abandoned it!
The storyline is dull and the narrative plodding. I found my mind drifting off to think of other more interesting things to do than read this book- shall I go and do the ironing or clean the fridge instead? On two occasions I just drifted off to sleep in the middle of reading The Narrow Land
Whilst the German refugee boy, Michael, has some personality, the other characters are not very well portrayed and did not really capture my interest or sympathy.
It is a relief to be able to go and read something more interesting now.
