The Narrow Land, is the first book by Christine Dwyer Hickey I have read, but it will not be the last,
From the very first lines, I was captivated by her lyrical prose, the dream like writing, and descriptions made me feel as if I was on Cape Cod, watching the story unfold.
Michael is a sad (in my opinion)little boy, who being taken from his home, and told not to use any German words, is sent to stay with people he doesn't know, making the long train journey on his own.
Once in Mrs Kaplan's home, he meets Ritchie her grandson ,Jo and Edward Hopper the artists who live close by and Katherine, Ritchie's captivating aunt,
The story, entwines around these characters, and is told so beautifully, you can feel the heat, and the laid back feeling of the Summer in 1950..
