I have just finished reading The Narrow Land, It is different to my usual reading choice and I must admit I did find it quite slow going. I felt that there was a lot of the same thing happening throughout the book. I liked the idea of the story though, a German boy Michael, who was transported to America during the second world war and ended up in an Orphanage, then eventually given a home by chance with a couple after being overlooked because he was an older boy and most people viewed him as a little different. Michael then had to try and forget everything which he had learned in his lifetime, his language, his culture and his beliefs. Michael struggles to adapt to a new life and then he has to take a holiday for the summer with complete strangers to him, although his adoptive Mother tries to reassure him Michael is not happy. Once there he meets an older couple and he forms an attachment to the Lady but is very wary at first of her Husband, it is a good book but takes a while to get going.
