Right off the bat, the title and cover attracted my attention and I knew that I would enjoy the extract of this novel. The title, "The Night Hunt", gives the impression of a dark and twisted novel, and ultimately alludes to the genre of fantasy and paranormal, which is exactly the premise of this novel. I really do like the cover, and I must commend its relevance to the plotline. The golden dagger represents Silas' dagger, which can be used to kill the deities and gods. However, no mention of the necklace/pendant as of yet, perhaps it becomes relevant later in the novel.
Perhaps the main characters are not to everyone's liking, but they certainly are to mine. Christo really brought the characters to life with her precise descriptions and mannerisms which she attributed to each character. I am curious to see how their relationship plays out and hoping for a bit of romance. However, the dead parents is a trope that is often overused in such novels, but maybe Christo can make it work and stand out.
The writing style was provocative and compelling. The first few lines immediately had me hooked. Yet at the same time, it wasn't in a way that tried too hard to hook the readers in, it was simply natural for Christo. I really enjoy the descriptions and acuteness in the extract, but I am also glad that they were not overdone. The plot wasn't bogged down by too many miniscule details, which can often happen in novels.
Overall, a great novel with lots of potential. I would really like to see more.
