I would give this a 3.5 as it was a perfectly readable story although it followed a pretty standard trajectory of a quest story, with a bit of romance and jeopardy thrown in.

I am not a fan of fantasy books as there is often too much world building and not enough plot but the author was able to interweave the world building into the plot so it kept the book moving.

Her character development was fun and Tristan and Thia ended up being very enjoyable characters to read because of this.

The main story is that Atia, the last of her kind, the Nefers is on a quest to remove a curse and to regain her magic. She is joined on her quest by a Herald, Silas a creature with no memories who wants to remember who he was, Tristan a scholar studying monsters who is delighted to meet some in real life and Cillian a half banshee who was rescued from some vampires. Along the way they meet lots of other creatures who are all intent on killing the group.

All in all a fun book.
