I haven't read anything by Alexandra Christo previously, and received this as an ARC through Readers First.
What an interesting concept! Gods and monsters, a unique human realm divided into 5 kingdoms, Earth, Air, Water, Fire and Alchemy, and a quest to retrieve what has been lost. This novel is well crafted, with humorous and memorable characters and a gripping tale.
We meet Atia, last of her kind, a monster that feeds on fear. When her path crosses with the unusual Herald Silas, and a curse is planted, the unlikely duo are thrust together to break it and reclaim their pasts. Accompanied by the fearless Tristan, a human, and Cillian, a half banshee, their quest sees them track down other monsters and even to the gates of the Gods themselves.
There were some well written twists along the way, and I enjoyed the climax of the story. Will definitely explore her other works.
