As with any historically set book, it takes a moment to get used to the language and references of the time but it doesn’t take long to be intrigued by the main character, Mayken, and her nursemaid.
There is a real sense of her character and personality already in the first few pages and you know that her spirit and curiosity will pull her into adventures. Great setting and detail that I’m sure will add to the story later and I’m really interested to find out how the two different timeframes are going to interact and what happens to the two child characters. Already hooked!
