What a beautiful cover! I love historical fiction and always want to read a fresh author. The topic of the Batavia deserves equal coverage to the mutiny on the Bounty and this book may just raise its prominence. I do hope the publisher has included a map in the book.
Mayken is a delightful and completely believable small girl with decided opinions and determination. The writing is superb. A lovely mix of historical detail and imagination together with a tinge of lyrical magical realism. I just hope I'll manage to cope with the horrors to unfold when revealed by such a graphic writer as Jess Kidd.
