The tasteful cover catches the eye and reflects the title and synopsis. The synopsis makes it clear that this story has a dual timeline but I'm unclear as to how the fates of these two children, hundreds of years apart, are connected. I've never heard of the Batavia so I'm not familiar with the true story on which this book is based. While a part of me is intrigued by the story, the writing style wasn't my cup of tea.
