This would not be my usual pick but as soon as I started reading I was hooked. The writing is beautifully descriptive - the sentence "Her mother was as durable as a well-built cabinet" made me smile and will stick with me for a long time.
I am unfamiliar with the story of the Batavia but now can't wait to read on and learn more through this entertaining novel.
