These time twins are so alike as to be almost of the same family,
A compelling tale of action and heartbreak that becomes so immersive one becomes trapped.
This was an historical triumph that has finally come to light thanks to Jess Kidd bringing it to the wider readership genre.
I found the construction of the narrative to be be a well thought out and enlightening record of the demise of the Batavia and her unfortunate passengers and crew.
The connection between Gill and Mayken seemed at first a bit tenuous but soon became a wonderful thread that pulled the story together despite the three hundred and sixty odd year difference in their timelines.
Violence and compassion, love and hate, empathy and brutality, they are all there in this enthralling story but woven together in a totally credible and believable way.
This book by Jess Kidd is a first for me but it certainly wont be the last.
Her research is impeccable as is her imagination.
Thank you Jess you have won a new fan.
