'The Night Ship' has a vivid and mesmerising feel, more akin to fresh, vibrant brush strokes on canvas than mere words alone.

It's a rewarding read that captures the squally, unpredictability of human nature with its scattered, broken pieces waiting to be made whole again from the fragments sitting tight in every crevice, under every rock, and in every heart.

Mayken and Gil. Gil and Mayken. Both are learning to recognise the goodwill or hostility of their own time and negotiating the sinuous path through it. During this wonderful alternating timeline, centuries apart, just as you're discovering an endearing nugget of pure, heart-warming gold, this tale of then and now has no problem throwing a handful of grit at you while your eyes are wide open.

Hugely immersive and highly recommended. I'm now off to research this author and their previous work as their writing style is sublime.
