This book follows two stories of children that are connected through an old ship and an island. The characters are well rounded and thought out however the story itself felt like a slow burner. I found myself struggling to push through the beginning but once reaching the end it was much easier and quite beautifully written.

The locations of the story seem to have limited what could be written about as only so much can happen in a small space but the mix of folk lore and history keep things interesting. I particularly liked the folklore tale that worked it was through both children’s stories and connected them even though they are years apart. Getting to know the character throughout was well done as they kept a sense of mystery as their stories were revealed. I especially loved when the characters were living a similar experience and had the same page written about them.
