This is a book that moved me to tears. It was beautifully written, with an engaging plot with two seamlessly intertwined stories. The cover, even just for the proof copy, was stunning. A stranger on a train even commented on how lovely it was!
Most of all though, the two main characters, Mayken and Gil, go through such a journey of loss, excitement, fear and bravery that it is impossible not to connect with them. Sometimes in books with split perspectives you can find yourself waiting for one character's sections and skimming through the other, but I can say that this was definitely not the case with this book. I also loved how realistic the writing was. People weren't saved from death to make it more palatable, it was raw and emotional and passionate.
I would highly recommend this book to everyone. It's easy to get into, hard to put down, and even harder to forget.
