Serial killer Jim has just had the shock of his life, somebody has written a book about his crimes, a survivor who seeks justice, what does he do?

This book follows nasty protagonist Jim, with his mean life, he is presented as a dour but not unlikeable character. The chapters are a mix of his daily life and extracts from the true crime book about his murders, written by survivor Eve.

Eve was a little girl when her parents and younger sister were exterminated by Jim. From her book extracts, deep mental scars are revealed. She has a lack of closure, she only had memories of what she heard from a locked bathroom, the details of the murders were then kept from her by her Granny. This gave her the drive to source the gruesome details later on, then as a thirty something she wrote this book. Her character is believable and sets a good contrast to Jim, hopefully the author reveals other facets to her personality, perhaps indicating some resemblance of normality.

Then there is the security guard who takes a serious focus to his work, watching for shop lifters and calling in his mindlessly boring observations avidly to his boss. He takes pride in a belief that he is more powerful than all others, including his boss, who is many years his junior. However, he guards his inner irritance, for now. He finds the book about The Nothing Man in his shop, this name he knows well as it's what the news papers called him 20 years ago as a result of his murder spree. Will his engagement with this long forgotten victim revive his blood lust?

Written in a captivating style, each portion slotted in nicely for a clear plot, the set up within this extract holds a lot of promise for what could be an exceptional read. It's out there but believable and I would like to read more, and not because of morbid fascination, Im not a fan of real life serial killer memoires, but it is relatively light reading considering the content.

The cover of the book says Two Stories, One Killer, No Mercy. We are led to believe that Jim is the killer without mercy, but what if it refers to the vengeance of Eve? who wrote this book to lure him in? Now that would be 5 stars to be sure.
