Compulsion is an angry, evocative word that conjures up an urgency, a need or obsession.
A strong emotion to follow the mere reading of the opening narrative of a work of fiction.
Yet that is what I felt at this tasting, this first impression of Catherine Ryan Howard's latest work.
A compulsion to return once more to the world of the writer who brought to us the ingenuity of Rewind.
In that she displayed an innovative writing technique.
The Nothing Man uses a similar skill with the narrative purporting to be the true crime memoir of Eve Black, writting about her obsessive search for the man who killed her family nearly two decades ago.
The literary senses are palably teased in the opening pages of this latest offering by a significantly emerging Irish writing talent.
