A great, fresh book, but with a caveat

I write this review as a childless women, and with the warning that if you are triggered by stories with a typical 'happy ending' trope (I don't want to reveal spoilers, but if you're one of these women, you know what I'm talking about), this book isn't for you.

Throughout the book, I was inspired by how many childless characters were in the background, portrayed as valid, respectable, 'normal' people. This is something that I don't see very often at all, and I had such high hopes of spreading the news of this book far and wide within my community. Sadly, I'm not able to do this because of one single, insensitive line right at the end.

But aside from my childless advocate status, this book was very good. The split perspective of the survivor and the killer was unique and gave the book a whole extra depth which I thoroughly enjoyed. In classic thriller style, the book hooked me in and had me picking it up to read a paragraph whenever I had a few seconds to spare during my day! The writing was clever and engaging and the story felt very real. I would definitely recommend this book to others and had it not been for the aforementioned trigger, it would have been a five star read for me.
