I was totally gripped by this book from beginning to end. Using the clever device of a book within a book, The Nothing Man tells the creepy story of Jim Doyle, who has a dark past, and a secret he wants no one to discover.

Eve Black has written a true crime memoir about the murder of her parents and seven year old sister in Cork, when she was just 12 years old. Eve was the sole survivor of this gruesome attack and has been trying to track down the killer, who has been called The Nothing Man, as he literally leaves no trace behind and has never been caught. No DNA, no witnesses, literally nothing. The Nothing Man has also been implicated in several other murders in the Cork area. Jim Doyle, now in his sixties, and a former policeman, is working as a security guard in a large supermarket, and discovers Eve's book instore. As the story develops we learn that he is The Nothing Man and will stop at nothing to prevent his identity being revealed.

This is a tantalising story which had me captivated from the very start. The author's description of Eve's grief as a devastated teenager was very poignant and really resonated with me, "I felt – like my insides were
one big, raw, open wound and that my body was just a thin shell built
to hide this". The ending was also very satisfactory If you like to be kept totally on the edge of your seat, then this clever thriller is the book for you!
