The Nothing Man by Catherine Ryan Howard is an intense thriller, written in a unique way, and is one of the best crime novels I have read in a long time.

Jim Doyle is a security guard in a store in Cork. His attention is drawn to a new book on display in the shop: The Nothing Man written by Eve Black. Eve was the sole survivor when her parents and younger sister were slaughtered by a serial killer almost two decades ago, and she is hoping that the book will help her to find out who killed her family and the other victims of the notorious "nothing man." He was given the name as he left no evidence at any crime scene, so the police had nothing to go on. Jim is devastated to see the book, as he is the nothing man.

The novel incorporates Eve's book, and Jim's increasingly disturbed reactions as he reads it in order to find out how close she is to finding him. It is certainly very tense in parts, and a definite page-turner of a book, although I was reluctant to turn the page on more than one occasion, afraid of what I might find there.

This book is expertly written, and very cleverly executed. A great story, a great idea and a great read.
