The Nothing Man by Catherine Ryan Howard is a story within a story. The first story is about Eve Black, whose entire family were murdered nearly twenty years ago. Since the murders Eve has struggled to cope and has never made any close, long lasting relationships. She is always fearful that people will recognise her and want to know what it's like to be the girl who survived. However, she has a burning need to find and bring The Nothing Man to justice. So when she is approached to write her side of the story, she decides now is the time.
The second part of the story is about Jim Doyle. Jim Doyle is a retired cop, who now works as a supermarket security guard. Jim is also The Nothing Man. As he reads the book, he realises how close Eve is to discovering his identity and knows she must be stopped at all costs. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and thought it was clever how the narrative was weaved through the two different stories. There are a few surprises at the end, which I was not expecting, which brings the plot to a final conclusion. A great book and a great read.
