Eve Black has just released her debut book titled ‘The Nothing Man’, which depicts the gruesome details of the night her family was murdered when she was only 12 years old - as well as the stories of the Murderer’s previous victims. She has been obsessively trying to figure out who it was for years and her book declares she’s about to catch him!

The Murderer - Jim Doyle - is currently a security guard at a supermarket and while patrolling the shop floor, notices the book on the shelf and immediately knows it’s about him. He is the Nothing Man - aptly named because he managed to leave no clues at all crime scenes. He leaves nothing and he hasn’t been caught… yet. As he flicks through the book he quickly decides he better get to her first!

I found this book a little slow to start and that the first half dragged a bit but enjoyed the format of ‘a book in a book’ - we read it as he does which adds to the suspense. The stories of all the victims in Eve’s book are pretty grim so not for the squeamish! It does speed up towards the end and there’s a few good plot twists - one i saw coming unfortunately and one I didn’t until it was happening thankfully - but the main thing I couldn’t get past was Jim’s character, I just didn’t ‘believe’ his thoughts and opinions of things as a serial killer. Even though what he’d done was absolutely horrific, I could only picture him as a ‘fake baddy’ you know? like a Disney villain but without the cool outfit, witty sarcasm and humorous animal sidekick?!
