Eve Black is just a young girl when the killer dubbed as The Nothing Man murders her mother, father and sister. Twenty years later she finally goes public with her experience and publishes a book about him.

Meanwhile Jim lives a dull and depressing existence as a security guard in a local store. He can’t believe his eyes when he sees a book about the infamous Nothing Man. He is desperate to read Eve’s account and see how accurate it is. After all, he should know, because he was the Nothing Man.

What a clever and original book. A story within a story, and both stories gripped me from the off. Hearing about how the Nothing Man moved from victim to victim, and how he would visit the houses prior to his attack to hide his tools was nothing short of terrifying, but I was equally fascinated by Jim’s angry and embittered attitude in the present day and seeing his mounting fear as he read Eve’s book.

Such a brilliant premise, expertly crafted and I loved the About the Author postscript at the end, which was a great touch.

Believe me there was NOTHING bad about this book, and EVERYTHING good. What a winner.
