When I read the synopsis of this book I thought it sounded really interesting but WOW.
I can't think of a book recently that has drawn me in as much as this one - I literally could not put it down and consequently finished it in a day!
Essentially this is a book within a book.
Eve's family were killed by "The Nothing Man" almost two decades ago - she was the sole survivor but was broken by the loss of her family. When she starts to emerge from the fog of her frozen life she decides to take a creative writing course. She writes about anything except her past, until the day that she forgets an assignment and her terrible history is the only thing she can get on paper before the deadline.
In facing the past she is encouraged to write a book about her experience - which also encompasses the previous crimes of "The Nothing Man". He has not re-offended since decimating Eve's family but when he sees her book and realises that it's all about him it seems that his secret alter ego may be in danger of being blown open.
This book is essentially Eve's book interspersed with the reactions of Jim Doyle aka "The Nothing Man".
This is such an engaging thriller - unusual in many ways as you know who the perpetrator is from the very beginning. The tension comes from Eve's investigations and the gradual uncovering of evidence as she researches her book. Things that nobody realised at the time were important........things that are making Jim sweat.
When you've got away with murder for 20 years would you let a book uncover your darkest secrets or would you kill one more time..........
Utterly gripping.
