By pure chance I recently read "Killing it" the first book in this series by Asia McKay and absolutely loved it, so it was great to read "The Nursery" and rejoin Alexis as doting mother/assassin.

This book, and indeed the whole concept, is brilliant, a woring mother working for Platform 8, a covert assassination branch of the secret services, whilst trying to juggle the mundane chores and familial disputes of everyday married life with a young kid.

The thing that I really loved about this story is that whilst it's a interesting and at times amusing slant on things, the actual serious events and action are written as you'd expect a thriller to be written, meaning that the quirky nature of McKay's approach just adds moments of amusement, without detracting from the drama and action. Lots of characters from book 1 reappear to various degrees, supplemented by a whole raft of realistic seeming sheep, with a snake in their midst.

In "The Nursery" a secret organisation is facilitating the sale of national secrets, leading to operations being stopped and a race for Lex and her team to find the people responsible before Security is irretrievably compromised. Throw in some Ghost like assassins and whole load of action and McKay has written another great Novel. I really enjoyed this follow up and after the sudden ending, eagerly await the next book.
