The Nursery by Asia Mackay ia a very well-written, humorous story of the mother of a two year old daughter who, unknown to any of her friends and family, works as a secret agent for the British government. Leading a double life comes with many challenges but these are multiplied many times over by the addition of a husband who thinks his wife has a mundane job and should be able to fit in little jobs, such as collecting his dry-cleaning, along with her responsibilities as the mother of a little girl. Lex Tyler is a fascinating, complex character brought to life by the author. She relates how Lex manages the difficulties many working mothers will be familiar with but in Lex's case made many times more complex because of the nature of her job. There is a spy in the section Lex works in leading to a complete shutdown of operations while the unit of which Lex is a member is tasked with finding, and eliminating, the spy. This is one of the most enjoyable books I have read recently. It's a real page-turner that I read in two sittings. I'm certainly hoping to read more of Lex Tyler's adventures in the not too distant future.
