This is a very unusual novel. Set in England it involves a mother whose career is very unusual, working for the country’s security services.
It tells of a threat to the security of the country and her work with her colleagues to rid the country of this threat and also keep a visiting diplomat from being assassinated while in England.
She balances her work life, which is top secret, with bringing up her baby daughter and also holding together her relationship with her husband.
The story revolves around the nursery where her daughter spends her days and the underground rooms where she is stationed.
Her family relationship seem to suffer although by the end of the book it is clear that this still holds firm.
