When i discovered this was book 2 in a series i rushed to get book 1 read before receiving this one, then read them back to back. However on doing this i can safely say you can easily join the series from book 2 as there is enough references to the goings on in book 1 that you aren't missing out on too much. But if you enjoy this one then at least you know there is more already there for you ready to enjoy.

I don't think book 2 was as strong as book 1, so it may benefit from reading them out of order. We start off with a breathless motor chase, before heading straight into family life. We get a hot dad in a nursery who then features throughout the story, with a subplot of our heroine having possible marriage problems after years of not being able to tell her husband what she actually does and him starting to get a little suspicious and drifting apart a little compared to how close they were in book 1, and her flirting with hot nursery dad who also happens to be in the security services (and so knows what Alexis really does for a living) isn't helping matters.

We jump back and forward between Eight and their mission and Alexis' family life with her two year old - but with this book the two are intertwining a lot more as the nursery is being used as a cover, so Gigi is in a lot more danger in this one. There is a snake who is betraying Eight and they have to find out who they are, the potential suspects being given suitable Peppa pig codenames so they could more easily be discussed in public around the nursery and other parents without it being obvious.

Who i thought the snake was early on in the book proved to be correct, so the various other red herrings just kind of got in the way for me and it was a bit frustrating waiting for the supposed intelligence servces to catch up. It is a fun journey though nonetheless with a good mix of violence and normality, as a non parent myself i am enjoying the insight into bringing up a child while also balancing the job of superspy.

Can't wait to see how Alexis gets on after the bombshell at the end of this book.
