I love this book! It begins with Lex in the middle of a shoot-out, when in the middle of it all, her husband rings, asking that she collect some dry-cleaning for him! We learn about torture rooms, secret prisons and that they make people rich and famous for their own reasons and have secret hospitals etc. But all of it is just casual and matter of fact. And it’s funny the casual way she kills people and handles threatening situations. Most secret service books are almost always from the male point of view. I love this book because she is mother to a toddler and in-between doing all of this, she has the usual tasks of dealing with tantrums and everyday stuff, like coping with childcare and the awful nursery teacher and all the school tasks. Plus the pushy parents who thinks their child is wonderful… It’s quite a feminist book, but it is very funny.
In amongst dealing with all of this, she learns that people have secrets to hide, that people aren’t what they seem and about the power of female friendships. I loved the bit about the dry cleaning and when she threatens the soon-to-be-ex of her friend. I also loved the end – that was funny too. This is an excellent read – it made me smile a lot!
