The beginning of this story is packed full of childhood memories, those of Augusta and of Parfait. We learn a lot about the irrepressible Augusta in suburban England who says exactly what she thinks and is obviously not going to be a conformist. And we learn a little about Parfait who is struggling to fill the shoes of his father who died in the tribal political troubles of Burundi.
