Born a twin, Augusta Hope has a fascination with words - poetry, lyrics, languages - you name it, she's analysing it. Growing up in a small village in England, Augusta always felt like the odd one. Dreaming of exploring faraway countries and experiencing the world around her, Augusta has always been misunderstood. Despite being so naturally smart, her words cannot always help her through tough situations and often, she finds it difficult to connect and sympathise with those she loves.

Parfait, originates from the other side of the world, in a small unknown place called Burundi. Nevertheless, despite the huge difference in backgrounds, Augusta has a vast knowledge of this foreign land. Like Augusta, Parfait dreams of adventure.... His hometown is facing a great tragedy and he longs to leave behind the poverty for freedom and a new beginning!

The novel is told over 2 decades, written in dual narrative, following the lives of both Augusta & Parfait. I love how the chapter intertwine so perfectly and as a reader, we learn so much about their lives. You just know that eventually they'll cross paths one day...

Joanna's writing flows so beautifully and it really was an easy read. This novel is everything and more - sadness, happiness, romance and could even be slightly triggering, but Jo executes this so well to the reader. At times, I found the story-line was predictable, but it's definitely worthy of 5 stars!
