Intriguing opening; I already have some suspicions!
Starting with a setting of ‘one week earlier’, immediately I am intrigued as to what is going to happen to the characters that have been introduced in chapter one. Kate is really missing her art, especially painting people. She had an accident five months ago and since this time has been staying in an extraordinary house in Cornwall to help with her recovery. The house belongs to her partner Rob, who she met when in hospital recovering from her accident. Alarm bells have started ringing here and I can’t help but wonder at Rob’s timing.
Already I want to know more about the accident and how this has left Kate without her ability to be able to recognise faces, a skill that was key to her previous job. It also seems that Rob is being overprotective towards Kate and his comment that he is terrified of meeting his doppelganger seems strange when Kate is no longer able to recognise faces. I can’t wait to keep reading.
