One woman dies, a woman reporter investigates, a woman fears that her man friend may have done it. Reasonably well written thriller, ok for a holiday.

The writing is mostly good, there are a few errors in the text, but the characters and their interactions are good. Didnt enjoy the americanisms, such as “auburn bangs”.

However, it is based in San Francisco. Not that i would know, the golden gate bridge, vertical streets, trams are not mentioned. I found the city description disappointing and bland. I hoped that this would be based in South Africa, Fish Hoek or somewhere interesting like where the author is based, hopefully this area will improve.

Character development is good, written from the perspective of Isla the female reporter in one chapter, Freja the woman who has a murderous friend the next, worked well. The male characters were weak and held rigidly to stereotype, Simon the rugged policeman, strong and firm. The CEO chap was the worst, highly intelligent, good looking and of good character. He also knows 10 languages, I doubt he knows them fluently though, but it is an unrealistic self representation of greatness which some men present. Overall, there are no weak men, all are strong, its only the women who display weakness. Which is a shame as otherwise its quite a good read, i wont be reading any further.
