It starts with the murder of Nicole - one of the key characters in the story. The rest of the book then jumps back and forth through time telling the story of the aftermath and the lead up to the murder, from the perspective of the two main characters: Isla and Freya.
Isla is a crime journalist, with a traumatic past which drives her work. Freya is a new graduate who has landed herself her dream job at a tech company, Atypical. Nicole is a fellow employee at Atypical, who seems to take an instant dislike to Freya and goes out of her way to make Freya's life a misery. It doesn't help that another fellow employee (and Nicole's ex), Jay, has taken an interest in Freya...
Strands of the story slowly unravel during the book to reveal the big picture, with lots of twists and turns throughout. It is one of those books that you don't really want to say too much about, for fear of spoiling the story. Suffice to say the central theme is bullying in the workplace - in various forms, and (to a lesser extent, but still just as important) violence against women.
I really enjoyed this book, but if I were to be really picky there were a couple of points were I felt the chapter headings (which denoted the timescale before or after the murder) for Isla and Freya didn't quite match up. But the story flowed perfectly well. All in all I'd recommend it.
