While I'm unsure as to whether the jumps in the timeline are consistent throughout the book, I do know that it happens between the prologue and the first chapter. This is something I like to see in a book, as the information comes through in fragments and the reader needs to piece them together to unravel the story. If this continues through the book it will tie in well to the work of a journalist, who may often put together a story from many pieces.
The moving of the main character from the city to the country is clearly becoming an additional storyline over the extract, and I suspect this may relate somehow to the murder storyline to link the two together later in the book.
I would love to continue reading this book to see if my theories about where the story is going are correct.
